Let Gillette Venus hear your thoughts on their campaign!

Questions to Consider:
- Why are labels so harmful?
- What message is Gillette Venus trying to send?
- How will you use your “and?”
What We Think:
Earlier in 2015, Gillette Venus launched the “Use Your And” campaign that encourages women to ditch the labels. According to Gillette, 70 percent of women felt labeled while they were growing up. Whether it was “smart,” “athletic”, or “pretty,” these labels followed them.
The “Use Your And” campaign encourages young women to break those shallow labels by realizing that there is more to them than just one attribute. The message of the campaign is essentially: When someone gives you a somewhat shallow compliment, complement that with another characteristic that you believe defines you.
“I am smart AND fun.”
“I am athletic AND stylish.”
“I can sing AND rock climb.”
The message aims to inspire girls to respond to seemingly shallow comments, but it also acts as a reminder to them that there is more to them, and they are not part of a category. Gillette Venus wants girls to understand that there is more to them than what they are labeled and that they should not be afraid to express that. – Rebecca Pirayou
