Contact Maybelline New York and let them know how you really feel about their constant sexualization of women in order to sell their products.

Questions to Consider:
- What is this ad actually selling?
- Does this ad appeal to you?
What We Think:
This recent Maybelline New York ad, starring Gigi Hadid, promotes The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara with an emphasis on Hadid’s breasts. As soon as Hadid applies the mascara, the real show begins. She juts out her chest and the push up effect goes into motion. Just not the effect Maybelline had in mind.
This unnecessary emphasis is strategically selling their product by essentially promoting big boobs. First, that’s false advertising. And second—by far worse—that’s putting unnecessary pressure on the girls that see this ad. It’s not the mascara that’s drawing attention, but the sexualization of the young girls in this commercial.
Towards the end, they even have Hadid take her vest off, but that’s okay, because her eyelashes do all the talking anyway, right? Wrong. By the time the hot, bra clad model soaks the hot, drink-spilling man, this commercial has completely deviated away from selling the mascara to essentially selling sex. —Rebecca Pirayou
