Why Gender was the third player in the Super Bowl this year.

Well, it has been quite a night. It’s as if gender differences were the third player in the Super Bowl, almost an imaginary push-pull between men and women (usually with women being shown as “in power”). Here’s another one:

Super low-budget, right? Well, it’s part of the theme, though: making characters of both genders look like one-dimensional simpletons. i.e. All men want from women is sex, and women just aren’t interested — in fact, all they’re interested in, according to Pepsi Max, is his salary. Oh, and the idea that women are somehow preyed upon (even just in a man’s mind) and must resist men’s advances. What does this say about what companies *want* us to be in order to sell their products? You tell me.

How about “Don’t think. Just buy.”?

The last ad that irked us is this one from GoDaddy.

And you know the women did “it” in the end… GoDaddy — so tricky.

By the way, has anyone noticed that each GoDaddy ad features a woman who is staring, slack-jawed and admiring, at the GoDaddy girls? It’s as if advertisers are giving a nod to women, saying, “You like this, don’t you!? SHE doesn’t think it’s sexist… so neither should you.”

There you go, just lie down and go to sleep, ladies.

  1. Ahem. You are such a dumb bimbo. It is a fucking commercial. Not a metaphor, its a fucking joke. Get a sense of humor and stop being a moron. You idiot feminists call it “sexism” when you don’t like it, like how you get paid less for not being as hard of workers, but call it chivalry when you do like it, such as “I’m the man, I should pay for dinner”. I don’t hate you because you are a women, I hate you because you’re a male-hating lesbian whore who needs to learn her fucking place and stop thinking she’s top of the damn chain.

  3. Not even trolling, this whole blog is just the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Seriously. I fucking hate women like this. There’s no men running around yelling about how they can’t be ballerinas or cheerleaders without being made fun of, why? BECAUSE we dont. fucking. care. we worry about important things. Not how the opposite sex ruins our lives with commercials that have nothing to do with ANYTHING. There wasn’t a single post about the super bowl commercials saying they were funny, or they were good, or anything. Why? because all this bitch wants is a reason to spew more bullshit.

  4. Yes, normal person, there are men like that. Who do want to be considered as more than a stereotype, as free to be or do whatever they want. Been to a gender studies department later (I kind of doubt you’ve been to any kind of higher learning, actually… but… (sorry for the low blow, but it’s somewhat called for))? Nearly half the academics there are men. Straight. Men. Interested in exploring and defying what crude societal stereotypes like the ones discussed here mean for individual and group identities of both genders. It’s called sociology, it’s interesting, and it’s important. Just because you might not be interested in biological-chemistry, doesn’t mean you have any right to swear at and put down the analyses within that field. This is no different.

  5. Wow – I think it’s hysterical that you posted the same stupid comment TWICE! It’s like you made up a friend to comment with you, but it’s just you! Nice entitlement comment BTW “top of the chain.” So I take you YOU are at the top? HAHAHA!!!

My friends and I (the group was made up of 2 men and 2 women) ALL agreed when we saw this ad (the one in the restaurant) that is was sexist and demeaning to both genders. My guy friends were totally pissed that guys were being portrayed as giant penises with ADD.

  6. To be honest, I didn’t really watch any of the commercials during the super bowl, barely even watched the super bowl at all LOL BUT, I did catch a few seconds of one ad for pepsi with the guy from Grey’s Anatomy. He’s talking to a guy sitting next to him(missed what was said because I had the volume turned down), they show another guy jump up and do something, so the guy sitting hits him in the nuts with a full pepsi can. Why no analysis of that commercial?

  7. Yeah, I did see that commercial too, but there didn’t seem like a lot to say. I am not cool with men taking it to the nuts as humor — cuz I hear it hurts. I guess people who make commercials really think it’s funny, though.

  8. I think that “normal” person needs to get a gander of this website before he tries to enter into any future discussions: http://derailingfordummies.com/

I personally think that his tactic was a breathtaking combo of “But Being Marginalized is Great For You!”, “You’re being Oversensitive”, and “You Have An Agenda”, with of course a healthy dose of straw-feministing to tie it all together.

Seriously, dude? Your tactics are as tired as they are transparent. I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul.
