Heather, that is horrific advertising. What on earth was the tourism board thinking?

And thank you, Stacey, for thinking of my little blog on this matter. I can't tell you how much that means to me. :)

Stacey - thanks so much for that link!!
Saphy- I COMPLETELY agree; this is my point exactly. It's degrading to the city and offensive to women and is actually deterring tourism instead of encouraging it.

How do they think this will inspire tourists to come visit? As a UK citizen (and therefore potential tourist) this just makes me think, they encourage perverts to harass women? This is the main attraction in Phillidelphia? No thanks, I'll go elsewhere.

Thanks for writing about this, Heather. It blows my mind how often people brush off street harassment like it's no big deal. One whistle, one nasty cat-call, even just a look up and down, can completely ruin my day. I am not walking down the street to be surveyed by you. I work as a receptionist and right next to a large window that is level with a sidewalk that gets a decent amount of foot traffic (in San Francisco). I get harassed through that window every once in a while, and I want to scream every time. One time, a man actually came in and walked up to my desk to verbally harass me as well. What makes people think this is acceptable behavior?! Ugh. We've got to do something to change it. Here's an interesting post on the topic I recently read, in case you're interested: http://nicegirlslikesextoo.com/2012/05/28/forget-i-hollaback-i-call-the-police/
