The Media Maze: Media Literacy for Adult Advocates of Girls

This workshop applies to girls of all backgrounds, gender identities, and ethnicities. Adults 18 and over only, please!

If you spend any time with teen girls (and their male peers) — as a teacher, parent, group leader, friend, or relative — you know that social media, the internet, TV shows, and music videos rule teens’ worlds. How can you learn media literacy skills you can pass on to girls?

You’re invited to learn About-Face’s tools and tips for guiding teen girls in truly understanding media messages — tools that instill productive critical thinking, not just criticism. You’ll learn the basics of media literacy in an interactive, hands-on workshop. And you’ll learn the dos and don’ts of engaging with youth about some of the most difficult media-related issues they face, such as body image, adult content, and gender roles.
