About-Face is searching for a few great workshop leaders!

About-Face is...
... a San Francisco-based organization that equips women and girls with tools to understand and resist harmful media messages around self-esteem and body image. We do this through our Education into Action media-literacy workshops, Take Action groups, and our resource-filled web site (www.about-face.org).

Our Education into Action media literacy program teaches young women the skills they need to truly understand what they're seeing to lessen the effects of harmful media messages. About-Face workshops are sassy, edgy, fun, creative and interactive. We go to schools and other organizations to teach young women how to dissect all types of media including magazine advertisements, music videos, television shows and so on.

In 2007 alone, we served 200 young women in the Bay Area. We are looking to expand that to 500 in 2008. That's where you come in!

You are...
...passionate about the work we do, live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and are looking for a way to make a powerful difference in young women's lives. You're also outgoing, energetic, and sensitive to issues around body-image and self-esteem. Talking to a group or audience doesn't give you an anxiety attack and knowing your subject well helps you. While you love talking to friends about the things that are most important to you, you also listen to other people's points of view and are able to engage in a productive discussion. You're 18-35 years old, up on the latest mainstream media, and aren't above dishing the dirt on the latest Project Runway episode. And last but not least, you have access to a reliable vehicle.

If this describes you, you may just be a great About-Face workshop leader! Get in touch with us and come to the About-Face Workshop Leader Orientation to learn more about what it takes to be a workshop leader.

When: Thursday, March 6, 2008 from 6pm-7:30pm
Where: The Thrive House for Youth
1100 Broderick Street at Eddy St., San Francisco
Click here for the Thrive House's web site.

Light snacks will be provided. RSVP to presentations@about-face.org or (415) 436-0212 by Tuesday, March 4 to hold your spot.

At the orientation, you'll see a mini-workshop and find out whether this is the right match for you. If it is, you'll also be asked to send us your resume and references by Monday, March 10th.

Workshop leaders will be given a small stipend plus full travel reimbursement for each workshop they deliver.

**The Bay Area is a diverse place and we want our workshop leaders to reflect that, so if you're a woman of color, come by and meet us!

Volunteer Virtually
If you're not in the San Francisco Bay Area, we'd still like to find a way for you to volunteer. (One great option is to help us update our web site's content.) E-mail us about any skills you'd like to contribute, and please tell us your age and where you live.
