I was reminded of the movie Simone when I first heard about this. It's about a movie producer that creates a hologram of a beautiful actress and the public thinks she is a real person and she becomes a huge star. I can see their point in it being a technique to use for showing their garments, because isn't that what mannequins are? White and thin? And of course they go way back. But I also agree with you that it does show a preference and standard, especially when they use the same body for all of their photos.
