Women of color make up an itsy bitsy percentage of all "fashion" imagery and when they are depicted, African-American women are often made to look wild, threatening or animal-like. These types of images are linked to age-old American stereotypes about black women. Start noticing how often the African American woman is shown in the "animal print", then consider how you might help change that. |
