Nike gives us beautiful voices
Questions to Consider:
- What positive message is being sent to young girls?
- How are women in sports treated and viewed?
What We Think:
Nike’s “Voices” ad features successful women athletes who overcame obstacles and sexism and celebrates how far women’s sports have come. This ad is so empowering because it shows women who wanted to play sports so badly that they “wrote their own rules”. Women who are in sports are not given much attention because many find it boring and unnecessary. The statement that Lisa Leslie makes — “I’m a model who can dunk” — sends a message that you don’t have to de-feminize yourself to be a good athlete. It’s great to see women who are so passionate about sports talk about how they were able to defy convention and be successful at sports such as running, boxing, and basketball. These are the types of role models young girls need! — Nickole Mariona

LOVE IT!!!Just a thought - why not putting on a latter on here that we could sign to praise companies like NIKE for their good efforts. Positive reinforcement works wonders!

This ad sends a very positive message to younger girls. This message is that no matter if you are a girl or a boy you are capable of doing anything and you should care what others think while you are doing it. Everyone should be treated fairly no matter if you are a boy or a girl. Women have always been treated unfairly when it comes to sports. The media makes it seem like girls can’t compete because they are not strong or fast enough. If a female were to get hurt while playing a sport she might lose her pretty image.Kim on 02-26-2013
Sure this is a great sentimentally emotional driven advertisement that reflects on changes in American culture. So lets forget about where our products are made and all the slave labor scandals that dishonor men and women as foreigner slaves for our ghetto fabulous fashion senses.Nike and the majority do not care about people.
