Questions to Consider:
- What does this spoof video say about how the media treats women?
- What does this video say about the media's view on beauty?
What We Think:
“Maybe she’s born with it…Uhh, no I’m pretty sure it’s photoshopped.” Filmmaker Jesse Rosten parodies society’s standard of beauty and we are loving it! The great thing about this parody is that it makes fun of the norms that are found in real beauty ads to show how ridiculous they truly are. In his mock ad, for “Fotoshop by Adobé”, he shows the unrealistic image of beauty that society and the media has created for women. Women and girls who look at these photographs and ads think and feel that they need to look like what they see and often do not understand that they are not real. They are photoshopped to make it seem as if they do not have imperfections and flaws. Jesse Rosten successfully shows that society’s standard of beauty is not real and that women should not strive to be “unrecognizable” — in a really funny way. –Nickole Mariona
