Although making fun of people based on any aspect of how they look is not okay, how is it thought of as okay to be obese? Obesity is a disease brought on (usually) by people's own lack of concern. It's not okay to be obese. It's horribly unhealthy, and although some women can have attractive faces and be overweight, obesity is not attractive. It is unattractive. It's a sad thing that people feel the need to ridicule advertisements such as this one---don't let the judgement influence you, or if you are obese currently, perhaps do. It's not attractive to be unhealthy, and it's unhealthy to be obese. I was very obese once, and I changed it. This may seem like tough love ladies, but the truth is: fat is not a body type. There's no point in saying you can't help it because you are overweight unless you have a medical disorder (and overeating doesn't count, I was a binge eater once). It's just as bad as this commercial if not worse to try to make oneself feel its okay for them to be obese. It's never okay to be unhealthy like that if you can do something about it, and you can.

Obviously they are really advertising the suction power of the vacuum, albeit in a clumsy and slightly obnoxious way, but I think the theme they are using is the reality of the models vs the end product/published photos.

I actually don't think they are ridiculing women's weight and I don't find this offensive.

Which brings to mind the layout of this site. By labeling some as offenders and some as winners, you are already saying which we should approve of and which we shouldn't. So if they majority of comments say an ad is winner, will you change the category?

This ad is stating that woman have to have skinny bodies to be able to model. This ad also really makes plus sized woman look bad and it probably puts down their self-esteem, it shows the ad being over and the vacuum turning off and the woman who was skinny for her photo shoot got really oversized and makes it seem like it is not okay to be that big and you should fix it if you are. The message that this commercial is trying to send to their audience is that the vacuum is powerful and can suck up pretty much anything. I really don’t think that the creators of this commercial were thinking about plus sized woman when they were making this commercial. I personally don’t find this ad to be funny at all I just find it to be humiliating for bigger woman but I do t think that it works because it is getting its point across and showing how powerful the vacuum actually is.

Stop! Stop! You've sucked off too much, now she looks like the suction should be put in reverse. But you know what? As long as it's seen as okay to make fun of fat people, you will see idiots making bigger fools of themselves just to sell a product. And the sad thing is? More idiots will be out there laughing at it!
